The word psychic refers to an ability to perceive information hidden from the normal senses through extrasensory perception, or what we call "ESP". The term is of Greek origin from the word "psychikos" meaning "of the soul" or "mental." Typically, people with psychic abilities can do a lot of extraordinary things. These include a lot of wonderful things like predicting the future, communicating with the spirits from the afterlife, mind reading, and healing, among many others.
Searching for the exact meaning of the word psychic in books, dictionaries, or other forms of literally will not give you the answer on how to know if you are really psychic. Some actual examples of psychic abilities are like when you know the phone will ring before it actually does; you get this feeling that it might rain though it's bright and sunny right now and later on that day it pours; and extreme signs can even go to reading people's thoughts and saying what they were wanting to say before they actually say it.
Signs of these extraordinary psychic abilities may come in the simplest package just like those. People need to correct the misconception that it has to be a nerve-wrecking event or a miraculous moment to know that you have psychic abilities. Actually, everyone to some extent or degree is psychic; but they are just completely unaware of it.
The list of psychic abilities can run from A to Z. Some may be blessed with the gift of Clairvoyance, Clairaudience, or Clairsentience; others may specialize in Aura Reading; and there are those who have the ability to see the unseen through their psychic eye or what we popular call the third eye; in fact, there are even others who have more than one psychic ability.
If you have psychic abilities then this is something worth practicing. Look at it this way, you can get a sneak peek to things in the future. You can be a hero because you can foresee unfortunate events and warn the city or even your country about these. Each one of us has these psychic abilities within us; it's just that the magnitude for each individual varies.
There are ways to enhance psychic abilities. The basics can be bundled into three simple points. These are namely acceptance or awareness, meditation, and positive thinking. First and foremost, you must embrace your gift. Next you must practice meditation -- clear your mind and let it wander. Lastly always think positive that your psychic gift can be used for greater good.
Most people with these special abilities treat their powers as their gift. They offer their psychic gift to people who need it. Being psychic is an extraordinary ability, and you have the opportunity to change the world and make a difference.
